United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Nigeria is supporting

the Government of Nigeria to strengthen prevention of and

response all forms of violence against children.
In particular, assistance will be

provided to strengthen the child protection system, including

through modelling the system in four States, in order to

demonstrate the impact of a well-functioning child protection

system, to develop a common model for operationalizing the Child

Rights Act at State level and to develop standardized tools,

including regulations, working protocols and training manuals to

govern the system.

We are recruiting to fill the position of:


Job Title: Child Protection Officer



Job Type: Temporary Appointment (TA) for 6 Month

Purpose of the Post


  • The successful candidate will be responsible for providing

    field support to Child Protection Section on documentation and

    response to violations of children’s rights in the context of

    conflict, and displacement in Borno and Yobe States;

  • Build capacity of relevant government, UN and CSO actors,

    engage relevant government and security agencies in the

    strengthening of referral pathways and support services for

    vulnerable and conflict- affected children.

Qualifications and Competencies

required


  • University Degree preferably in Law, Social/Political

    Science, Journalism or related field

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience. Experience in human

    rights, humanitarian issues or child protection is an asset

  • Fluency in English and Hausa (both written and orally),

    Knowledge of Kanuri is an asset

  • Demonstrated track record of academic/field research as

    well as knowledge of data base management and analysis is

    desirable.

  • Experience of working with government, NGO and

    community-based partners.

  • Ability to work independently under difficult conditions as

    a team and with tight deadlines.

  • Willingness to travel to remote and conflict-affected

    areas.

  • Excellent communication skills.


Major Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provide technical support for the design and implementation

    of Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism (MRM) subgroup’s work

    plan and activities in Borne and Yobe States;

  • Co-chair monthly meetings of and provide secretariat

    support to the Child Protection Networks in Borno and Yobe

    States with focus on coordination of referrals and services;

  • Assist relevant Government actors in convening quarterly

    state-level inter-ministerial committees meetings;

  • Provide overall support to programme management including

    the development of state- level work plans, programme reviews,

    budgeting, donor reports, etc.

  • Serve as resource person for partners on capacity building

    and awareness raising activities;

  • Convene monthly coordination and capacity building meetings

    of MRM subgroups;

  • Act as State-level focal person for both States in the

    coordination of MRM data collection and timely input into the

    regular Nigeria MRM reporting;
