Job Description
The Country Legal Lead for Nigeria is responsible for Corporate and compliance matters in the Country, the implementation of Corporate and compliance Global programs ,driving local compliance requirements towards Global programs and implementing these requirements locally. He/she also acts as Legal advisor to the Country Managing Director.
Key responsibilities:
• Provides market Legal services and represents Legal to the to the Leadership team in the Country
• Manages and co-ordinates all Legal support in the Country (working with the Senior Directors of Legal Services Contracting and CORE of the Geography as appropriate).
• Reviews, negotiates and/or oversees the largest and most complex projects in the Country and gets involved to the extent required
• Responsible for managing and meeting certain metrics for Legal support in the Country as decided upon by the Legal Leadership
• As a leader, the Country Legal Lead is expected to consistently demonstrate leadership behaviors such as Integrity, Respect for the Individual, Stewardship, Client Service and collaborative decision-making as well as to ensure that the personnel in Accenture Nigeria adhere to Accenture's Code of Business Ethics.
• The Country Legal Lead is responsible for making recommendations to the Director of Legal Services CORE Africa & GEM and the Senior Directors of Legal Services CORE and Contracting of the Geography
Specific Responsibilities
Client Centricity
• Act as Legal advisor to the Country Managing Director
• Work with Leadership in the Country to understand their Legal concerns and needs and communicate those to the Director of Legal Services CORE Africa & GEM and the Senior Directors of Legal Services CORE and Contracting of the Geography
• Understand the Country Managing Director's strategy and priorities in the Country and work with the Director of Legal Services CORE Africa & GEM, the Senior Directors of Legal Services CORE and Global Transactions for the Geography to develop Legal and contracting strategies and Country Risk Management objectives.
• Organize general Legal function support in the Country.
• Responsible for Corporate and Compliance matters in the Country (in close collaboration with relevant Legal Subject Matter Experts - SMEs), including the implementation of the global Corporate and Compliance program; in that capacity, advise the Board of directors or equivalent body
• Share the Legal risk patterns and trends in the various markets or Client Accounts across the Country with the Director of Legal Services CORE Africa & GEM and the Senior Directors of Legal Services CORE and Contracting for the Geography and contribute to the development of measures to actively address and manage Legal risk patterns and trends, reducing the impact of such patterns and trends on the geography overall risk profile.
• Educate Accenture Leadership in the Country on Legal/contractual and risk management matters.
• Counsel, advise, and consult Country Managing Director on Compliance matters.
• Oversee Legal support, counsel, advise, and consult Senior Executives on the largest and most complex projects in the Country, representing Accenture's interests and interfacing directly with client counsel and negotiating teams to enforce these as needed
• Represent Accenture Legal on the outside market (e.g. in the Legal IT forum, Corporate counsel association or similar organizations)
Consistency
• Implement in the Country the Legal group strategy as well as the Geography Legal action plan and guidelines.
• Assure the quality and consistency of Legal service in the Country, working with the CSG Legal Leads in the geography, the Director of Legal Services CORE Africa & GEM and the Senior Directors of Legal Services CORE and Contracting for the Geography
• Lead Company's initiatives relevant for the Country in line with the EMEA/Global Legal program.
• Contribute to the development of internal guidelines, toolkits in line with the EMEA/Global Legal program, including development of standard or template contracts (representing the needs and interests of the geography in the development of such standard or template contracts in the geography).
• Propose to and agree with the Director of Legal Services CORE Africa & GEM and Senior Director of Legal Services CORE and Contracting for the Geography and then implement initiatives for the Country to execute on the Country/Geography Compliance, risk management strategy and contracting objectives and priorities, addressing (i) the general Legal offering and specific Legal offering to the Country; (ii) the FY Priorities of the Country (CSG/Country specifics, new legislations, Foundation Clients); (iii) training needs; (iv) direct support to the Country Executive management (nature, depth, timing).
• In line with the Escalation Protocol, serve as an escalation point for difficult Contract or Legal issues that are unusual and/or more risky than regular OG/OU/GP escalation guidelines and/or Compliance issues; confer with/facilitate escalation to the EMEA/Global Legal leadership as appropriate.
• Work closely with the Director of Legal Services CORE Africa & GEM and Senior Directors of Legal Services CORE and Contracting and other Country Legal Leads in the geography as well as Legal SMEs (Offerings and Alliances, Litigation, IP, Entity Matters, Labour Law, Data Privacy, Anti-Corruption, Anti-Trust and Export Controls) to foster Consistency across Legal group and leverage (and allow to leverage) solutions, templates and knowledge available in the Legal group as a whole.
Specialization
• Develop, on an annual basis or as agreed with the Executive Management, a Legal Risk Profile for the Country
• In line with the Area and/or Geography Action Plan, establish an Action Plan per FY for the Country based on the standard Legal offering but tailored to the needs of the Country and the identified Country Legal risk profile, and establish an effective and regular follow up and enforcement of the actions agreed therein
• Establish the framework for tracking of approved variances and deviations, and identification of Legal risk patterns and trends in the various market or client accounts across the Country
• Develop, agree and promote measures to actively address and manage Legal risk patterns and trends, reducing the impact of such patterns and trends on the Country overall Risk Profile.
• Derive the need for (i) training of Accenture employees in the Country, (ii) development of templates and packaged knowledge.
• Create best practices and knowledge capital and global programs specific to the Country.
• Manage outside counsel relationships with law firms in the Country.
• Develop very close working relationships with tier 1 and tier 2 law firms in the Country.
• To the extent required, work with local law firms or training providers to ensure that local Legal training needs are adequately addressed.
• Recruit as necessary to fill open and approved positions
