RESEARCH SUPERVISOR


• Engage in planting, crossing, harvesting, and seed processing of for parental lines of maize hybrids and ensureimplementation of planned activities in different locations.

• Coordinate all field operations, including seed preparation, planting, thinning, shoot covering, and pollination in maize crossing blocks and multiplication fields of inbred lines under rain-fed and irrigated conditions.

• Ensure storage of seeds of parental lines of hybrids in an orderly manner to facilitate retrieval system.

• Make requests for required field tags as well as pollination (shoot and tassel) bags for various crossing blocks.

• Coordinate and plan isolation of breeder seed production fields

• Coordinate labor allocation for thinning, shoot covering, pollination, harvesting, threshing, and seed preparation throughout the year.

• Participate in screening of maize inbred lines, varieties and hybrids for carotenoid concentration and content.

• Supervise the preparation of inbred lines for distribution to collaborators in and outside of West and Central Africa.

• Prepare seeds for storage in the cold rooms and take inventory of the quantity and quantity of seeds of inbred lines and hybrids available in the cold store.

• Prepare seeds of inbred lines and hybrids requested by collaborators for shipment

• Provide practical training to new staff members working under special projects.


QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

• BSc or HND in Agriculture

• Minimum experience of 2 years in a similar position


FIELD WORKER/DRIVER


• Engage in maize Seed preparation, Processing and Storage

• Participate in Planting operations for maize, field harvesting and data Collection from maize experiments and seed increase operations

• Actively participate in all maize field maintenance activities including land preparation, fertilizer and herbicide applications, thinning and hand pollinations

• Driving staff to field sites and other

• Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor


QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

• WASC and a valid driving license.


RESEARCH ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER


• Supervise and coordinate the activities of crop utilization laboratory, including various laboratory equipment, standard analyses, and technical staff.

• Conduct analyses on chemical, physicochemical and functional properties of cassava, yam, Banana/Plantain, maize, cowpeas and soybeans and their food products

• Provide expertise in quality control/assurance of laboratory analytical data.

• Identify and order all approved equipment, chemicals and materials for the laboratory

• Provide technical backstopping to national agricultural research institutes, non-governmental organizations and community-based organizations conducting activities on crop quality

• Contribute to capacity building on food analysis and training of  Youth Coppers, Industrial training (IT) students and Research fellows)

• Perform any duties assigned by the supervisor


QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

MSc in Analytical Chemistry or Food Science/Technology.


PROJECT ADMISTRATIVE ASSISTANT


• Assist Project manager to effectively monitor project budgets;

Develop and maintain files, records on financial expenditures of various budgets of the project;

• Providing monthly and quarterly reports on project cost centers expenditures against approved budgets to Project Manager with financial reports due to donor and Institutes;

• Checking with project partners and collaborators, processing and reporting on returns and justifications of funds granted to project collaborators/ partners;

• Assist in the preparation of annual budget and follow the execution of same;

• Follow up with YISFWA scientists and project partners to ensure that financial reports are submitted in timely manner;

• Liaising with IITA Finance directorate, Project Administrative Office (PAO) and other units to ensure compliance with IITA procedures and timely response to requests;

• Tracking and monitoring of project expenditures on oracle and provide updated monthly reports at Project Management meeting;

• Any other duty assigned by the Project Manager.


QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

BSc/HND Accounting, Economics, Finance with 3 years Administrative, Finance and Accounting experience.
