The United Nations Human Settlements Programme Experts in Governance – Gender and Anthropology Job in Nigeria 2014

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. UN-Habitat helps the urban poor by transforming cities into safer, healthier, greener places with better opportunities where everyone can live in with dignity. It works with organizations at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society and the private sector to help build, manage, plan and finance sustainable urban development.

UN-HABITAT is the implementing partner of the Preparation of Structure Plans for four Urban Areas in KogiState of Nigeria. This project, in line with the agreement between UN-HABITAT and Kogi State Government, is for the development of Urban Structure Plans for four urban areas in the state. These Structure Plans should contribute to achieving the set development goals of the Kogi State Government, the Habitat Agenda seeking adequate shelter for all and, achieving the Millennium Development Goals by improving the urban management.

UN-HABITAT is currently recruiting for the position of:

Job Title: Experts in Governance, Gender and Anthropology

Duration: Six Work Months, Starting December, 2014

Job Description

Each Consultant will be working in two of the four cities of Lokoja, Okenne, Kabba and Dekina in Kogi State, which will be grouped into two Clusters of two cities each. One of the Consultants will also serve as Team/Cluster Leader.

Responsibilities

The Governance and Gender and Anthropology expert will be especially responsible for the themes Governance, Gender and Heritage.He/she will work very closely with his/her city team, which is responsible for one of the city Clusters as well as with the GIS professionals.The consultant will report to the Team Leader and Chief Technical Adviser (CTA).

Qualifications
The consultant will be an expert in governance and gender. He/she must also have strong conceptual, analytical, technical skills and experience, including;

Minimum of seven years relevant professional experience.Substantive and relevant experience in developing countries, especially in Nigeria and preferably in Kogi State.Advanced degree in related fields (e.g. gender studies, political science, urban planning and anthropology and also strong background in participatory planning).Demonstrable skills and knowledge of Nigeria’s urban sector and stakeholders preferably experiences in the Kogi State.
