Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill various positions in her institution. The position will be filled in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act No. 11 of 1993 the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment Act 2012 and the Akwa Ibom State University Law.

REGISTRAR


JOB DESCRIPTION

The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration of the University, except in financial matters where the Bursar takes precedent.

He shall be the Secretary to the Governing Council, Senate, Congregation and the Convocation.


THE CANDIDATES

The candidate must be a team player with good leadership qualities to inspire and motivate a crop of administrative officers.

He/she must command respect, be ready to instill confidence and relate well with subordinates.

The candidate must have high integrity, innovativeness and moral standard in tandem with the vision and mission of Akwa Ibom State University and must be ICT (Information and Communication Technology) compliant.


QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for this post must:

Possess the basic qualification of First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC), WASC/NECO/GCE with five (5) Credit Passes including English Language.

Possess a good honours degree in Humanities, Law, Education or the Social Sciences from a recognized university, with at least 18 (eighteen) years cognate experience, preferably in a university or other institutions of higher learning. Acquisition of a higher degree will be an advantage.

Be a member of a recognized professional management body such as: NIM, CIPM, ANUPA and should possess proven records of sound administrative leadership;

Not be below the rank of a Director of Administration with 3 (three) years experience or Deputy Registrar with Five (5) years experience.


Tenure

The tenure of the candidates as Principal Officers of the University, is a single 5 (five) year term.


SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The successful applicant for the post will be placed on consolidated salary structure with the relevant benefits as applicable in the Nigerian University system.


DIRECTOR OF WORKS AND MAINTENANCE


JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Works and Maintenance is the Chief Technical Officer of the University and is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day running and maintenance of University Buildings, Roads, Boreholes, Electrical Installations, Equipment and other properties as well as the provision of service and utilities for the well-being of the University.


RESPONSIBILITIES


The candidates for the post must exhibit considerable degree of competence, responsiveness, and demonstrable integrity for the running of a Directorate of Works and Maintenance of a University;

Prospective candidates must be proficient in ICT with demonstrable competence in computer aided designs and controls.


QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must possess the basic qualification of First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC), WASC/NECO/GCE with five (5) Credit Passes including English Language and Mathematics.

Candidates for the Post of Director of Works and Maintenance must have good honours degree in Engineering, Building, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Estate Management, Urban and Regional Planning plus at least 18 (eighteen) years of relevant experience especially in works and maintenance;

Candidates must not be below the rank of a Deputy Director of Works and Maintenance in a University or similar Institution with at least four (4) years experience;

Possession of a Postgraduate Degree will be an advantage;

In addition, candidates must be registered members of relevant Professional bodies such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (CO.REN), ARCON (for architects), QSRBN (for Quantity Surveyors), MOB (for Builders), NIESV for Estate Surveyors and Valuers). etc.


Conditions of Service/Tenure

The successful candidate shall be placed on salary CONTISS 15. He shall hold office for a period of five (5) years from the effective date of appointment and may or may not be re-appointed on such terms and conditions applicable in Universities in Nigeria and as maybe determined by the Governing Council of the University.


DIRECTOR OF PHYSICAL PLANNING


JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Physical Planning is the Head of the Directorate of Physical Planning.

He is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the Conceptualization, Design,

Supervision and management of the University Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Projects.

The candidates for the post must exhibit considerable degree of competence, responsiveness, and demonstrable integrity for the running of a Directorate of Physical Planning of a University;

Prospective candidates must be proficient in ICT with demonstrable competence in computer aided designs and controls.

UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN


JOB DESCRIPTION

The University Librarian is a Principal Officer of the University.

He/she is also the administrative and academic Head of the University Library.

He/she is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for day-to-day running of the University Library, and its orderly growth and development.


THE CANDIDATES

The ideal candidate must be able to gear the University Library towards its vision of meeting the demands of students, staff and community by ensuring:

An effective and efficient library system;

A highly commendable e-library service complemented with traditional library services;

Adequate programmes that promote information and critical literacy;

An effective coordination of University Library Units in faculties, department and centres.

Be a person with high degree of integrity and moral discipline as well as be endowed with creativity and innovation potentials.


QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for this post must:

Possess the basic qualification of First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC), WASC/NECO!GCE with five (5) Credit Passes including English Language and Mathematics;

Be professionally qualified and practicing librarian;

Possess a good honours degree in Library Science from a recognized university, plus a higher degree (preferably a Ph. D) with at least 18 (eighteen) years relevant experience, preferably in a university or other institutions of higher learning;

Have contributed to knowledge through research and publications in reputable journals, as well as possess proven records of sound administrative leadership;

Not be below the rank of a Deputy Librarian with at least 6 (six) years experience;

Be highly resourceful in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Computer-based cataloguing and e-library literacy.


Tenure

The tenure of the candidates as Principal Officers of the University, is a single 5 (five) year term.


Salary and Conditions of Service

The successful applicant for the post will be placed on CONUASS 7 with relevant fringe benefit.


BURSAR


JOB DESCRIPTION

The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer of the University.

He/she is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration and control of the financial affairs of the University.


The Candidates

The candidate for the post must exhibit a considerable degree of competence, responsiveness, demonstrable integrity and transparency on matters of financial and human resource management.

He/she must be ICT compliant and must be conversant with current trends in financial reporting;

Prospective candidates must show innovative approaches to the running of an ICT driven Bursary, working at the highest level of efficiency to eliminate time wasting, bureaucracy and bottlenecks;

The ability to advise the Vice-Chancellor in planning and executing strategies for enhancing internal revenue generation as well as promoting the culture of “doing more with less” shall be required;

In addition, applicant is required to write in not more than five hundred (500) words his/her proposal for fund generation and management for the University.


QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for this post must:

Basic qualification of First School Leaving Certificate(FSLC), WASC/NECO/GCE with five (5) Credit Passes including English Language, Mathematics and Economics;

A good honours degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance or Business Administration from a recognized University;

Must in addition be a member of any of the following professional Accounting bodies: ICAN, ANAN, ACMA, CPA – USA. Possession of MBA or any relevant higher degree will be an advantage;

The applicant should have at least eighteen (18) years post-qualification cognate experience and must have been a Deputy Bursar for at least four (4) years, preferably in a university or similar institution.


TENURE
