The BBC World Service Trust in Nigeria is seeking to recruit an experienced Project Manager to manage the Media Support for Self Advocacy, Good Governance and Empowerment (MESSAGE) program.

Location: Abuja, Nigeria

Job Objectives

The project manager is expected to be based in Abuja.  The BBCWST's role in the Project is to address and improve the numerous health challenges plaguing women and children in the society through tile media.

The Trust works in five main programmatic areas: health, governance, education and livelihoods, humanitarian response and climate change and is also looking to develop new projects in these areas in Nigeria.

The Project Manager who should have experience working on either  a Family Planning (FP), Reproductive Health (RH) or Prevention of Malaria donor Project before will take the lead and provide direction in all technical and media related functions in line with the execution and implementation policies of the BBCWST and donor requirements.
 S/he will provide strategic operational advice to the Trust to help synthesize best practices towards successful delivery and high quality standards in accordance with BBC standards to achieve planned results. The Candidate will also ensure that interventions respond creatively to emerging challenges.

The Project manager post is Abuja based but may involve constant traveling to the focal states in Nigeria. The contract duration is expected to be for an initial period of one year, with a Six month probation period and a start date in August 2011. However, it is subject to renewal. Salary will be based on experience but does not include moving or relocation allowance to duty station.

Skills/knowledge/Experience
Thorough understanding of best practices in project implementation and media training. Strong experience in project management, a minimum of 3-5 years working experience in the management and implementation of donor funded projects, including logframes and deliverables and a demonstrated commitment to media and development in West Africa. Strong editorial judgement and substantial radio production experience, including production of audience participation formats. Proven ability to analyse and critically evaluate editorial content, identifying strengths and weaknesses in programme content and driving constant improvement in output. Possess strong oral, written communication, report writing and presentation skills and proficiency in the use of relevant information technology packages. Knowledge of designing and executing behaviour change campaigns and ability to speak Hausa will be an advantage. Knowledge of donor requirements especially USAID will be an advantage. Demonstrated commitment to media and development. Thorough understanding of the Nigerian media industry and the use of communication to build long-term development solutions. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and remain focused in a complex and frequently changing environment.Qualification A good first degree in Mass Communication, Theatre Arts, Communication Arts, English or the Social Sciences or any other relevant field. An advanced degree will be an added advantage
