TSHIP ADVANCING HEALTH IN BAUCHI & SOKOTO

TARGETED STATES HIGH IMPACT PROJECT (TSHIP)

SENIOR HEALTH SYSTEMS ADVISOR
TSHIP is a five years, USAID-funded project being implemented in Bauchi and Sokoto States by a consortium of five organizations including the Center for Education, Development and Population Activist (CEDPA), futures Group International, LLC (Futures group), Jhpiego, Management Strategies for Africa (MSA), and JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) as the organization. TSHIP is looking for one full-time SENIOR HEALTH SYSTEMS ADVISOR who will be based in the project’s Sokoto State Office, Sokoto. The SHSS A will provide leadership on the project team for health services management at state, LGA, and health facility levels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
• To work with the State Ministry of Health (SMOH) to develop and implement a strategic plan for the improvement of overall system that will help increase access and improve the quality of health services in Sokoto
• In collaboration with the SMOH, establish a coordination mechanism to develop an integrated health system involving all key stakeholders, including the communicates that will deliver and integrated high quality material, child, and reproductive health services
• To ensure that the project’s health systems interventions are “state-of-of-the-art” and benefit from best practices in Nigeria and internationally
• Provide policy support and technical assistance in health sector reform, and health care financing
• As a member of the project’s senior management team, contribute to the strategic direction of the project, and represent the project at meetings and conferences

REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
• Graduate degree in public health, planning, economics or equivalent
• Demonstrated ability in health sector reform and healthcare financing
• Strong communications and interpersonal skills
• Proven leadership and team management skills and demonstrated ability to supervise staff
• Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving and leadership skills, including the ability to make independent decisions and take initiative
• Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access; ability to give clear instructions; good English writing skills an asset
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively in the field, under at times suboptimal conditions
