Background
The UN WOMEN (United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women) is recruiting personnel for the following position in the Country Office in Abuja:
Duties and Responsibilities
Drives office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items
Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required;
Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres etc; performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean;
Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc;
Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident;
Report to the Administrative Assistant any fault detected in any of the UN WOMEN vehicles;
Photocopy mails and other official documents as may be required in the office or during workshops/seminars;
Distributes mails as appropriate to all staff within the office and to government and NGO offices directly involved with UN WOMEN in the implementation of the Country Programme;
In collaboration with the Admin. Assistant facilitates the procurement of visas for staff members, Government officials, traveling abroad for meetings and other official engagements;
Maintain records on travel in order to facilitate efficient tracking and monitoring.
Performs any other duties as may be assigned.

Be a Nigerian national (male or female)

Have a minimum of 5 years professional driving experience with a reputable organization
Have work history of at least 3 years in the UN system is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions
• To build the capacity of women cooperatives to basic means of production
• To increase the economic potentials of women to compete within the limited
• To serve as a catalyst in order to ensure the involvement of women in mainstream development activities, as often as possible at the pre-investment stage.
• Programme Management and Implementation
• Support management of UN WOMEN
• Support the achievement of Gender Equality through Women Empowerment and reduction of violence against women.
• Research and Advocacy
• Facilitation of Knowledge Building and Information Sharing
• Facilitate capacity building for relevant stakeholders
Specific Tasks:
Develop the proposal for the gender mainstreaming and women economic empowerment and itsimplementation framework.
Liaise closely with the Gender Desk Officer of relevant stakeholders and institutions on empowerment of women
Develop new proposals for funding for activities for economic empowerment and capacity building for the Nigeria police
Support other tasks in the UN WOMEN office as assigned by supervising officer
Propose and implement a resource mobilization strategy for possible donor support based on outcome of stakeholder consultation on programme development
Conduct continuous analysis of the gender and economy context in Nigeria to influence the project’s response to emerging economic issues affecting women.
Undertake follow-up action on programme implementation activities and prepare relevant reports. Draft changes in programme work plans as required under the UNDAF in Akwa Ibom State
Coordinate and Assign/undertake monitoring visits to UN WOMEN gender and economic programmes and projects sites/partners, assess local conditions and resources and monitor UN WOMEN inputs. Communicate with local counterpart authorities on project feasibility and effectiveness
Provide overall technical and advisory oversight to the different stakeholders of the project through the focal desk officers.
Provide overall coordination for the activities on economic empowerment of women
Record and harmonize gender concerns and observations at the national, zonal activities on economic empowerment.
Analyse programme implementation reports and evaluate against established programme recommendations, plans of actions and deliverables. Report outcomes of analysis and make recommendations.
Facilitate the engagement of consultants for any activity that may required the services of consultants within the economic empowerment and capacity building for the police
Facilitate training activities for the Nigeria police on VAWG.
Participate in training programmes, including preparation of training materials and facilitation of sessions within UN WOMEN’s programme areas
Contribute to accurate and timely inputs for project status report required for donors, management and annual reports etc.
Attend technical meetings with partners, prepare reports and undertake follow-up action
Perform all other duties as may be assigned by the UN WOMEN Representative.

Qualifications:
The Consultant will have an advance degree in social sciences with current and relevant experience in practice or research in the area of gender equality and women economic empowerment.
Experience:
o Minimum of 2 years of professional experience, including in-depth knowledge of programming on gender equality, with profound knowledge of women’s rights, gender issues and gender analysis in Nigeria;
o Experience in programme coordination and implementation;
o Previous work with UN Agencies and/or civil society organizations will be an advantage;
o Strong communication and writing skills in English are required.
